This wasn't good, the soft cushioning kept her eggs warm.

Mama could see where the stuffing had been blown. She was in two minds on whether to leave her eggs and fly down to get the bits back that Papa had worked so tirelessly to collect.

Ma had a quick look around the nest, looking at the branches above and below. She couldn't see any danger. “That's it'” Mama decided to quickly fly down and collect the bits for the nest. Mama was busy on the ground, pecking away at collecting the stuffing and flying back up to the nest.

Mr Snake saw his chance for the first meal of the day. He quickly moved along the branch and peered into the nest with his forked tongue licking the air. “Three eggs, must be my lucky day” Mr Snake thought. Straight away he began with the biggest egg, slowly swallowing it without much effort,

he then turned his attention to the second egg, “I’ll leave the smallest until last” he thought. As he finished the second egg, Mama looked up and in horror saw Mr Snake's tail waving excitedly out of the nest..

“Oh no!” she screamed and dropped whatever was in her beak and flew as fast as she could, yelling out as she flew up to the nest. Papa heard Mama and also began flying back frantically, dropping the worms he had collected.

Mama saw Mr Snake in the nest ready to eat the third and final egg. And she began darting down to him, beak first! “Ouch” Mr Snake yelped, he turned to see two very angry birds ready for attack. Mr Snake quickly turned and slithered out of the nest and hurried down the tree before the second attack could injure him any further.

n a dark twisting and twinding branch high up on the mighty oak tree, lay Mr Snake he had just woken from hibernation. He was hungry and needed to eat.

While stretching and slowly making his way down the tree, slithering through one branch onto another in sheer silence, he saw the birds nest from the corner of his eye. “Hmmmm breakfast” it seemed for him.

Mr Snake had now made his way to the branch where Mama & Papa had nested and then paused. Amused at the spectacle of Mama bouncing up and down on her eggs, he just lay there all curled up, in wait, waiting for the right opportunity to have his breakfast. Mama was occupied with keeping the nest nice and tidy, when a gush of wind came along and blew some of the soft cushioning from the nest.
