The End

Fibh could see something moving in the cage. He was curious, so he flew accross to have a better look.

“Little bird, is it really you!?” said Mr Snake.

Fibh was shocked “Mr Snake? What's happened?”.

“Help me little bird, get me out of this cage, I'm, I'm sorry for what I did”.

“Looks like you've found your place in life Mr Snake”.

And with that the science teacher moved his feet off the cage, while Fibh hopped out of the way.

He picked up the cage, and peered inside “The kids are really going to enjoy playing with you in class” as he looked at Mr Snake “Off we go then” and he headed off.

with the cage while Mr Snake was looking back calling out to Fibh. For the first time in Fibhs life, he'd realised that Seamus being a human, longed to fly, longed to become a bird, swooping through the air, light as a feather, to fly where he pleased.

Fibh said to himself “I'm a bird and I can fly!” and he lifts off high into the sky, realising that his role in life is as a bird and nothing else, to be the best bird he can, and to be thankful for what gift he has been given....... The gift to FLY.

And with that Fibh flies up into the midday sun, grateful for his advenure and remembering all the help he had along the way. “Thank You Harry, Thank You Larry, Thank You Wise Owl, Thank You Charlie, Thank You Mr Snake..... And Thank You Seamus!!”.

“Nearly there Fibh, not far now” Mama says while turning her head around to look at him.

Then at last they arrive at a large deep rivers shore. Fibh can see a make shift ramp leading off a small sand dune, stretching out into the middle of the water.

“What on earth is going on?” Fibh thinks to himself.

“Mama” Fibh turns to his mother “Why have you?....”

“Look Fibh, look” Mama replies

Fibh turns and in his amazament sees Seamus the eldest of the MacDougalls running as fast as he can along the ramp, with what looks like large make-shift feathers attached to his arms,

6

flapping them up and down frantically, trying to create lift, jumping off the edge, flapping as fast as his arms will allow, until splash! Straight into the water.

Fibh is silent, stunned at what he has just seen.

He sits there all morning, watching Seamus, try again and again to fly, he can't do it. He'll never do it, he's not a bird.

Seamus's science teacher was sat below the ramp on a deck chair next to the river bank. Both his feet resting on a cage “Bad luck Seamus, nearly did it that time, keep at it, the more you try the stronger your arms will get and eventually you should get the hang of it” the science teacher said, giving him some moral support.

come on son let's go home”.

They both fly off excitedly into the distance. After a short journey, Papa shouts out. “Mama, Mama, come quick, look who's here?”.

“I hope you've got those worms for me, I'm starving” Mama replies.

“I've got something EVEN better” Papa replies.

“You better not be wasting my time” Mama shouts back.

“Just come and have a look” Papa insists.

And Mama steps out of their new nest, to see her young son Fibh.

“Fibh!!” she screams. Rushing towards him with both wings wide open and hugs him tight.

4

“My son, I thought you'd been eaten”.

“Mama. Mama I'm fine, just fine, but I am a bit hungry?”.

Mama kissing her son, guides him into their new nest where Fibh eats and talks all night long about his adventure.

The next moring Mama says “Fibh, my son. Today I want to show you something that will make you understand who and what you really are”.

Fibh slightley confused “Mama, it's ok, I know, I'm a bird”.

“That you are my son, that you are. Just come with me” Mama replies.

Mama, Papa and Fibh start to fly off. Fibh begins to realise that he's going to a part of the MacDougalls estate that he had never flown to before.

5

By now Fibh was high up into the sky, latching onto the jet stream to follow his journey home to Scotland.

After what seemed like months, Fibh finally saw the Big Blue Flag on top of MacDougalls castle.

“Home at last” he thought.

Fibh hurried to the Grand Oak Tree “Mama and Papa I'm home, I'm home” looking frantically for his parents. “It's me, Fibh, I've returned”.

Fibh searched everywhere around the tree, but could not find them. He then saw pieces of the nest still laying by the side of the oak tree “No! he thought “They've left me, where could they have gone?”.

Fibh slowly and painfully started to walk away, he lifts his wings and slowly starts to fly off, never to return.

2

Then in the distance he hears “Fibh..Fibh ma Boy!”.

Fibh smiles and turns around – mid air – to see Papa flying across to him.

They both fly towards each other, and hug.

“Papa, I've missed you and Mama so much!”.

“Son, we thought you'd been eaten by an Eagle!”

“An Eagle?” Fibh replied.

“Yes... Yes.. It's what that Snake had told us”.

“That Snake!” Fibh shouted.

“Where's Mama?”.

“We've built a new nest on the other side of the grounds,

Fibh waves goodbye, all three of them tearful, but trying to remain strong for his farewell.

“Be careful Kid!, remember what I told ya” as Larry snivels and wipes a small tear.

“You crying?” ask Harry “Nah, I think I've got something stuck in my eye” replies Larry. Harry replies “Yeah, ya eye ball” and they both start chuckling while watching Fibh fly off.
